Sanara

“Absolute Heaven on Sand”

When I travel I look for location, ambience, room/hotel comfort and vibe. Sanara fit the bill for all 4. I travel weekly for work and am particular about where I stay on my personal time. From the moment I found Sanara on the website I knew it was my type of place and it did not disappoint. No detail was spared and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel right at home and like family.

First off the setting. Sanara is set on the most beautiful part of Tulum beach. With the whitest sand and the most beautiful blue water. Sanara is set in the middle of the stretch of beach and made for great walks to the other hotels and restaurants. It was also our quiet haven to chill and relax while lounging on our comfy beach bed under our wooden canopies for resort guests only. My favorite thing to do was to just lounge and have one of my yummy smoothies from the Real Coconut.

Secondly the rooms. Attention to detail on design and decor provided the utmost comfort. We stayed in a beachfront room on the upper level. We had the perfect view and were lulled by the sound of the crashing waves. The beds were heavenly. The sheets were the softest I have ever felt. Bamboo silk that was so soft and soothing against your sun kissed skin. Our balcony was perfect for our morning coffee and a treat at night for a nice read before retiring. The bathroom was comfortable with a nice large shower. And enough counter space for all our stuff. There was a great daybed for an extra guest or ideal for lounging.

Third - the spa services and yoga. Both my husband and I had massages. I had a few. The practitioners were professional and great at what they did. I had an amazing Reflexology treatment with Mauricio and it was super healing! The massages are a must have for any muscle issues or just to relax and heal.  The Yoga studio was the best in Tulum and most places I have been. The setting is the best view in Tulum. Alessandra and team were the best instructors I have experienced. I hadn't practiced yoga in a while and this has gotten me back in. The experience cannot be explained and must be had.

The Real Coconut - my husband was nervous about the vegan/gluten free health side of restaurant. Well he came back transformed. The food was delicious. Every meal left us content, and satisfied our taste buds. The juices and smoothies were my favourite and I loved them all. Breakfast, lunch or dinner were all yummy! The staff were all so great and always wanting to please. Even the impatient travellers with the highest expectations were pleased. We love you guys and Cindy too! We left with hugs and kisses after a week of getting to know our friends. We miss you and thank you for taking such good care of us!

Finally the owners Daniella and Charlie. The sweetest, most good natured individuals. We love their outlook and what they are trying to achieve. They are good people who care and we found an immediate connection with. We hope to meet you again soon! Allegra and Angel and everyone from reception Thx so much for looking after us! You guys are the best.

So pack your bags and give it a try!!

Sanara Dream Catchers

Away from the sandy shores of the Caribbean and nestled deep within the roads leading to the Mayan ruins of Coba lies a small village. It is here that local resident artisan Javier Balam recently met with Sanara’s Rudy Gonzales to delve into his one of kind, hand crafted dream catchers specially made for Sanara.

Designed to protect, the dream catchers originated as a guard to keep dark thoughts away from you as you slept. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from nightmares, while letting positive dreams through. The constructive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught within the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck upon them. The hand woven goods were first represented in an all black weave and placed over loved ones heads while sleeping, to warn off evil spirits and dark energy.

The Mayans believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dream catcher when hung over or near your bed swinging freely in the air, catches the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the outer holes and slide down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeper does not know that he/she is dreaming. The bad dreams not knowing ‘the way’ get tangled within the dream catcher and perish with the first light of the new day.

Constructed of a locally grown Beahuco tree wood, each dream catcher is carefully hand woven with nylon thread, and can take up to a day and a half to complete. Adorned with beautiful Sweet Water Shells, the dream catchers also features Mountain Turkey feathers that are collected from a bird reserve located within the Yucatan. Javier assures us and explains passionately that the birds are well kept and shed their feathers naturally.

Producing approximately over 3,000  dream catchers a year, Javier takes great pride in his trade and has since passed on the unique craft onto his son and nephews.  Available in the signature colors of Sanara (navy, natural, & white) to place your order please email info@sanaratulum.com
